Wheatfield Library displays drawings of DeMotte artist George Tachtiris in November, December
George Tachtiris is a native of Gary, Indiana but has lived on five acres near DeMotte since 1975. He and his wife Jill raised three children who are all grown and moved away to pursue their careers. George and Jill have a small "ranchette" with a horse, goats, two cats, and one dog.
George earned a Bachelor of Art Education degree from Indiana University, Bloomington and a Masters of Education from Purdue University Calumet.
He was an educator, coach, and administrator at the Crown Point Community School Corporation in a career that spanned over 38 years. He was honored to be inducted into the Crown Point High School Alumni Association Teacher Hall of Fame in 2014.
Now happily retired, he enjoys traveling with his wife and friends, trail riding with his horse "Chance" (14 different states so far), and continuing his interest in art by spending time in the small studio he built in anticipation of his retirement. He enjoys drawing and painting but also creates cartoons, animations, and videos, which he shares on Facebook and Youtube.
