Confederate spy story part of Jasper County History

Indiana may have been part of the Union during the Civil War, but not everyone agreed with that decision.

Rebel sympathizers abounded in all parts of Indiana, even far remote Jasper County.

DeMotte Library Celebrates 50 Years

On Monday, Aug. 15, the DeMotte Library will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The first library, opened on Monday, Aug. 15, 1966, occupied a small room in a building just north of the railroad tracks.

Keith Robinson, who was the publisher of the Kankakee Valley Post News and owner of the building agreed to share his space with the library.

Summer reading: lunch and books at RCSC

This summer, participants in the Rensselaer Central Schools' summer lunch program can also take part in the Rensselaer Library's summer reading program.

Rensselaer Children's Librarian Janice Wilma will be at Van Rensselaer Elementary School Tuesday mornings through July 12 from 11am-12noon.

JCPL Launching 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program

Beginning May 2, all three branches of the Jasper County Public Library are launching “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten,” a program that encourages children ages birth through preschool to discover the love of reading.

Active Shooter training offered at libraries

In the event that an active shooter was to enter your place of work, school, shopping or areas of recreation, would you be prepared?

The Jasper County Public Library has partnered with Troopers Jacob Raupp and Ryan Hovarter of the Indiana State Police to offer two opportunities for you to attend ISP’s Unarmed Response to the Active Shooter training.
